West Coast National Park

We spent our final day exploring West Coast National Park.  It was beautiful and is one of the best places for migratory birds in all of South Africa.  But it was a little too cold for swimming!

Rock Jumpers

Of all the birds Adam saw in Cape Town, Rock Jumpers were the most exciting.  We drove two hours to their habitat, spent about half an hour finding and watching them, and then drove back!

Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden

We visited the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, and after several hours of birding, enjoyed a hike into The Gorge.  Unfortunately, something happened to the photos of the garden, so here are a few from the hike!

Table Mountain

We climbed Table Mountain and it was BEAUTIFUL!  It took about 2.5 hours, and we had an amazing view of Cape Town from the top.  Then, we took the Cable Car down because it was too late to hike down the path (which was very steep). On top, we noticed a beautiful beach down below and rewarded ourselves with a lovely dinner on the beach.  It was a fabulous day.

Cape of Good Hope

We spent an afternoon exploring the Cape of Good Hope.  There were a multitude of birds endemic to the peninsula and Adam's eyes were glued to his binoculars.  We also saw ostrich and a number of other mammals.  We weren't lucky enough to see whales, but hopefully we will see them soon!  The Cape of Good Hope was astonishingly beautiful and fantastically windy, and we can see why it was difficult to round during the days of exploration.  We were almost blown off the peninsula!
